An iconic 5-star hotel located at Hyde Park Corner in Knightsbridge.
The Lanesborough is an iconic 5-star hotel located at Hyde Park Corner in Knightsbridge, the heart of central London, England. Known for its luxury and refinement, the hotel represents the epitome of London's rich history, elegantly marrying the past and present.
The grandeur of The Lanesborough is palpable from the moment you step through its doors. The neoclassical-style hotel is part of the distinguished Oetker Collection, which is renowned for its exclusive portfolio of masterfully crafted hotels in the world’s most desirable destinations.
Steeped in history, The Lanesborough occupies a building that was once Lanesborough House, the London home of the Viscounts Lanesborough. The original house was demolished in the early 19th century to make way for a hospital. After the hospital was relocated in the 1970s, the historic property stood vacant until it caught the attention of the Duke of Westminster, who purchased it.
The property was later transformed by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, who carefully refurbished it and re-opened the building as a hotel in 1991. For a decade, the management contract was held by Starwood's St. Regis operation, until it was passed to the Oetker Collection in November 2014. Under the Oetker Collection's management, The Lanesborough continues to exude an air of timeless elegance and sophistication.
The location of The Lanesborough is hard to beat. Nestled next to the Hyde Park Corner tube station, the hotel is directly opposite Hyde Park and Apsley House, the London home of the Dukes of Wellington. Guests are thus placed in a perfect spot to explore these iconic London landmarks.
In 2013, The Lanesborough underwent a significant renovation. The hotel re-opened in 2015, revealing a refreshed and modernized interior while preserving its historic charm. That same year, it earned the reputation of being the most expensive hotel in London, highlighting its status as a symbol of luxury and opulence.
Dining at The Lanesborough is a gastronomic experience not to be missed. The hotel is home to a Michelin Star restaurant, which was launched in 2009 as 'Apsleys – a Heinz Beck Restaurant.' The restaurant set a record by earning a Michelin star in less than five months after its opening - the quickest for a new London restaurant. Although the dining room was rebranded as Céleste in 2015 and received a Michelin star in 2016, it unfortunately lost this prestigious recognition in 2022.
While The Lanesborough offers all the amenities expected of a 5-star hotel, it's the history, location, and dedication to luxury that truly set it apart. The hotel offers an unforgettable experience that is synonymous with London's timeless elegance and charm.
