As the slow travel movement gains momentum, a growing number of travelers are embracing the concept of JOMO — the “Joy of Missing Out.” Driven by a desire to disconnect from digital distractions and fast-paced itineraries, this trend is redefining modern travel. On social media, the hashtag #JOMO has surged past 53 million views on TikTok, reflecting widespread interest in more mindful vacation experiences.

Recent surveys reinforce this shift in travel priorities: 62% of respondents say peaceful environments help reduce stress, and 85% seek vacations that allow them to fully unplug. In response, hospitality providers across North and Central America are crafting specialized experiences that cater to the JOMO traveler.

Relaxation Reimagined: JOMO-Focused Resort Offerings

In Mexico, Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa is reimagining the party town of Cabo San Lucas as a haven for downtime. Its new “JOMO In-Room Experience” invites guests to stay in and unwind with a 24-hour unlimited room service option, an in-room spa session, curated reading material, and a DIY margarita or mocktail and guacamole kit. From June 1 to July 31, the resort is offering up to 20% off longer stays, plus a $100 food and beverage credit and a $100 spa credit.

Over in Hawaii, the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort blends cultural immersion with calm island living. Situated along the Royal Coconut Coast, the resort’s ‘Ohana Sun & Fun package includes lei-making classes, ukulele lessons, and unlimited shaved ice by the pool. Themed welcome amenities include local snacks, a s’mores kit, and rooster-themed souvenirs, designed to create screen-free, family-focused memories.

At Guatemala’s Casa Palopó, a Relais & Châteaux boutique hotel overlooking Lake Atitlán, guests find peace among indigenous villages and volcano views. The 15-room property features a lakeside infinity pool, open-fire restaurant Kinnik, and access to Shamanic blessings. Each room includes painting kits and palo santo sticks to encourage creativity and spiritual reflection.

In the mountain town of Jackson, Wyoming, The Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa offers cozy luxury tailored for rejuvenation. The 40-room lodge features gas fireplaces, soaking tubs, and scenic balconies. Guests can indulge in holistic treatments at the newly expanded Body Sage Spa or meditate on the terrace. Signature touches such as plush bedding, leather decor, and a custom teddy bear aim to create a restful, homelike environment.

A Shift Toward Presence Over Productivity

The rise of JOMO-centric travel signals a lasting shift in traveler behavior, where wellness, reflection, and intentionality outweigh packed itineraries and social media check-ins. For an increasing number of jetsetters, the most memorable journeys are no longer about what they see — but how they feel.
