ISTANBUL, Turkey — Visitors pouring into Turkey’s airports this summer—including the 4.4 million Britons who already vacationed here in 2024—face a brand-new cost of misbehavior: a €62 (£53) on-the-spot fine for standing up or removing a seatbelt before the aircraft has come to a complete stop at the gate. The rule, announced in May by the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority (known by its Turkish initials SHGM), applies at every commercial airport from Istanbul to Bodrum and could reshape the familiar post-landing scramble to deplane.
