United Airlines has announced a significant investment of over $1.9 billion in its hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport's Terminal B. This investment is complemented by an additional $624 million from the Houston Airport System. The extensive renovation plan for Terminal B includes the construction of 40 new gates for both domestic and international flights, enhanced curbside and roadway facilities, an expanded ticketing lobby, and a more efficient security area.

The project will feature two new passenger concourses. The first, a 765,000-square-foot structure spanning three levels, will house 22 narrowbody gates and a United Club on the mezzanine level, set to be the largest in the United system. The second concourse will transform 30 gates currently serving 50-seat regional jets to accommodate larger, two-class regional jets. All flights in the new terminal will be boarded via jet bridges, a departure from the current setup.

Additional amenities planned include a sensory room, a United-branded "park," various comfort zones, two concession hubs offering 115,000 square feet of food and retail space, and an upgraded baggage-handling system. The developers aim to achieve LEED Silver certification for the new buildings, reflecting a commitment to sustainable construction and operations.

While United Airlines has not provided specific dates for the commencement or completion of the project, this investment marks a significant enhancement to the airline's operations and passenger experience at one of its key hubs.
